The Cold Steel Boar Spear has a spearhead of SK-5 Medium Carbon steel – it has been honed to have a sharp edge and it it has been blackened. The blade fits alongside the shaft on its back. The shaft is of american ash wood and has been stained and varnished. A Secure-Ex sheath of hard tactical impact plastic and a nylon retaining strap is included. The spear comes disassembled. The spearhead is secured to the shaft with a pair of wood screws which are included.

This modern boar spear has a large, wide head to cause a maximum sized wound on an unarmored target in short order. The spearhead is thin and sharp – allowing it penetrate deeply and more easily then a thicker spearhead with more mass. Its medium carbon steel aids in giving the thin blade some flex to resist snapping. The base of the spearhead has two winged lugs to prevent over-penetration, allowing the spearman to keep a target at a distance after the strike. The wide and dense hardwood shaft aids in directing a great amount of force into the target and to resist breaking.

Please Note: Our photos show an approximation of the completed weapon – we did not screw the head to the pole, this is why the screws are not present in the photos. Also poles may have slight bends or warps, however, we inspect them to try and pick the best ones available.

Stong spear The only issue I had with this spear was when installing the spear head I had to modify the shaft so that it would properly attach.

Very feeble After owning this spear for several weeks, I have found that the wood screws included do not hold the head securely in place for long at all. My first impressions of the spear were very good. It came very sharp and it’s long edge made cutting water bottles effortless. However, the head soon came loose and I now have to tighten the screws every time I use it and the head shifts and rattles even then.
